Global Projects with a Global Scope!
"Educating the Next Generation of Engineers for the Global Workplace"

    Welcome

The Global Engineering Excellence Initiative (GEE) and the Global Engineering Internship Program (GEIP) are innovative global programs that combine industry, universities, and students to meet the challenges of the 21st century. GEE is a consortium of universities from around the world sponsored by Continental AG that works to prepare top engineering students to perform successfully in a global working environment.

The format for the GEE Consortium is to convene an elite group of industry and university representatives from around the world, who are interested, committed and capable of providing world-class engineering education and internship opportunities to develop a global competent engineering workforce.

We are in the process of including additional industry and university partners to the GEE Initiative. As a result of the GEE Initiative, the Global Engineering Internship Program (GEIP) was created to provide global internship projects to students from the consortium universities. This program addresses the critical needs of developing an engineering workforce that is prepared to tackle the imense number of global challenges of the 21st century Corporation.

We invite you to learn more about these programs on our website or to contact us directly.

    Kind regards,

Mr. Marcio Lobo Netto, Prof. Dr.
Chair-Elected of the GEE Initiative (2009-2010)
    Associate Professor Electronic Engineering

    Who We Are

Eight international prestigious universities, participated in an initiative to conduct the first worldwide scientific study on “Global Engineering” started in October 2005. Continental is committed with technology and education and therefore supports the “Global Engineering Study”.

As a leading international automotive supplier in the high-tech sector, Continental has actively promoted engineering education, reforms in academic systems, and the development of young engineers for many years. This commitment has now been integrated into a comprehensive Engineering Excellence initiative in close cooperation with eight international universities on three continents.

Continental strongly believes in partnerships with universities and is promoting this initiative as a responsible undertaking in a non-selfish way.

    Underlying concept

Technological innovation is a key driving force in every national economy worldwide. To steal a march on its core competitors, every economy needs innovative instruments to research, develop and train the next generation of engineers. So, to support this process, Continental has joined forces with eight leading international universities to launch the Global Engineering Excellence Initiative.

    Purpose

    The path to global excellence
The primary purpose of the Global Engineering Excellence Initiative is to add weight to the increasing important role played by engineering sciences in the global economy. Industry as a whole needs highly educated engineers to assure technology leadership and future innovations. By participating in this international study, universities will gain – and provide – an immediate insight into engineering practice worldwide, culminating in the presentation of findings at a global information platform in November 2006. Based on thorough scientific research, the study uncovered some fundamental facts about the world of engineering education, careers and the types of candidates entering professional engineering. The research data and findings were subsequently wide-scale distributed. Participating universities gave a detailed outline of international trends and engineering training developments.

Ultimately, engineering excellence intends to be pivotal to global economic growth, so every industry needs engineers equipped to achieve top results, to function as primary catalysts of management and outstanding cultural achievement. So it goes without saying that this study went beyond the boundaries of the automotive sector to look at all engineering sciences, irrespective of branch or industry.

    The purpose of the study
Now, more than ever, companies have to support young and aspiring engineers actively to keep global business activities profitable. To sharpen public and professional perception of needs, we have to recognize engineering profiles and careers, and invest in general image-building – worldwide.

Global in scope, the study analyzed the growing impact of "Global Engineering" on today’s markets, while providing basic and scientific data on engineering education, careers and professional engineering profiles. Specifically, it addressed the global nature of engineering today and emerging trends in engineering education, including successful approaches to internationalization. The study also aims to show how universities, industries and government can cooperate more productive in preparing more engineers for the modern-day global marketplace. Our Objective

In Search of Global Engineering Excellence:
Educating the Next Generation of Engineers for the Global Workplace

The objective of the Global Engineering Excellence Initiative is to uncover important facts about the importance of engineering in the world’s markets, the education of engineers on a worldwide basis and the needs for future engineering profiles, as well as to give recommendations for improvement for all stakeholders. And all this from a global perspective – for the first time ever.

Engineers play a critical role in driving the global economy. Industry needs highly educated, corporate engineers to ensure innovation and technological leadership. Industry needs engineers who strive for the best in a high-performance, high competitive global market. Industry needs a new breed of engineer: technically broad, commercially savvy, and globally adept.

As a leading international automotive supplier in the high-tech sector, Continental is strongly committed to promoting the global advancement of engineering education and the development of young engineers. The report, In Search of Global Engineering Excellence: Educating the Next Generation of Engineers for the Global Workplace, reflects that commitment. It also reflects the commitment of eight internationals universities known for their engineering programs.
